Funeral services for Rita Agarwal, aged 64, will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 23, 2022 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe. Visitation & viewing from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. after the service.
Rita was born in Gorakhpur, India in 1958 and passed away in West Monroe, Louisiana on August 19, 2022 at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kalash Das and Damyanti Devi; as well as her brother, Murli Manohar Agarwal.
Rita is survived by her son, Saurabh Agarwal; Daughter-in-Law, Wai Ching Leung; her sister, Nisha Agarwal; her brother, Ram Manohar Agarwal; her nephew, Praveen Agarwal; her niece, Kirti Agarwal, her nephew Nitin Agarwal; her niece Sulbha Agarwal; her nephew Anumod Agarwal; her niece Divya Agarwal; and her nephew Harshit Agarwal.
Rita's dream was to become a doctor, so she studied diligently to enter & complete medical school in India. Then, after marrying, Rita moved to Canada briefly before settling in the United States in 1985 and giving birth to a son, Saurabh. As a single mom, Rita was accepted to a residency program in Brooklyn, NY where she stayed for 5 years.
After completing residency, Rita drove across country with her son to take a job in Arkansas before finally settling in the Monroe, Louisiana area in 1995. While there, Rita balanced being a loving, devoted, mother and helping others through her Psychiatry career. As a mother, she encouraged her son tremendously and enrolled him in everything to help him find what he liked. Meanwhile, Rita grew her private practice and partnered with various hospitals to become a staple in the community. Rita loved her work because she loved helping people. She was adored by both her patients and co-workers and was known for her willingness to accept particularly tough cases.
Rita had a full-of-life spirit and was always up for adventures. She loved traveling, hiking, yoga, and trying new things such as zip-lining and shark diving. She was very active in Heritage of India and was a great steward in spreading joy though Indian culture. She also had an amazing ability to start conversations with strangers and wasn't afraid to travel to foreign places on her own. She most of all enjoyed spending time and talking with loved ones which she would make known with random, unexpected kisses.
Rita had a passion for education & donated to a charity that brings education & health services to rural India. She was also passionate about the and in her name.
