State College, Pennsylvania - Rita J. Black, 105, of State College, PA, was born on December 9, 1919, and passed away on September 19, 2025 at Foxdale Village, State College, PA. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the youngest daughter of Thomas and Mary (Rynes) Filip. In 1942 she married her high school sweetheart, Edward B. Black. They were happily married for 57 years until Mr. Black passed away.

Rita attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School and The Institute of Notre Dame High School where she studied business. After graduation, she worked at John S. Connor Company, where she was involved in ship logistics and assembling convoys from the port of Baltimore to Europe during World War II. After the war, she and her husband moved to Philadelphia (PA), Buffalo (NY), Claymont (DE), West Chester (PA), and Paoli (PA). After her husband's passing, she moved to State College to be closer to family. She enjoyed the beach, gardening, horse racing, was an excellent seamstress and cook, but above all, loved visiting with family.

Surviving are her three children: Edward (Christine) of Tampa, FL; Charles (Sheryl) of Kennett Square, PA; and Jeanne (Michael McKinney) of State College, PA. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 from 9:00am to 10:30am at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801 (814-237-2712).

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College. Private interment will follow.
