Rita Williamson Bridges, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, after a period of declining health, on March 2, 2026, at the age of 76 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, North Carolina. Born on December 29, 1949, in
Gastonia, North Carolina, Rita's journey through life was one marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering spirit.
Rita was raised in Henderson County. Her career began at Meritor, formerly known as Rockwell International, (and currently known as Cummins-Meritor), in Fletcher, North Carolina until an injury led to her early retirement in 1993, she worked diligently in receiving and as a robotic technician.
Rita's commitment to learning saw her become certified as a teacher for children with special needs, a testament to her compassionate nature and desire to make a difference.
Rita's heart was filled with love for her family, and her feline companion, Koty, who preceded her in death this past February. Her creative talents shone through her passion for crafting, whether it was sewing, crocheting, making beaded jewelry, or creating silk flower arrangements. With a keen eye for color and detail, she brought beauty into the lives of those around her.
A faithful member of Crossroads Baptist Church in
Zirconia, NC, Rita served as a treasurer for Sunday School. she left a lasting impression on the children, often receiving handmade cards from them as her health declined.
Rita was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Although she enjoyed being at home, Rita made new friends easily, her warmth and kindness leaving a mark on everyone she met.
Preceded in death by her parents, Jacqueline Ophelia Bradley Williamson and Homer Williamson, her husband of 19 years, James Bridges, her daughter Christy Craig, her dear Koty, Rita leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. She is survived by her daughters Angie Bradley, Melinda Caldwell and her husband Greenlee, and Tina Bridges; her sons Elijah Jeroham and wife Crissy, and Shawn Wolfe and wife Crystal; her brother Michael Williamson and wife Karen, Sister Sandy Buckner and husband Bill, her grandchildren Kyle Wolfe and wife Jaimie, Jennifer Roberts and husband Kyle, Dakota Wolfe and wife Desiree, Zachary Wolfe and wife Camryn, Patrick Wolfe, and Samuel Wolfe and wife Emily; nine great-grandchildren, with one more expected in September; and many extended family members and friends, including her cherished Crossroads church family.
Services to honor Rita's life will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Crossroads Baptist Church, 15 Smyre Road,
Zirconia, North Carolina. Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Eddie Conard will officiate, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
