Rita Coleman Obituary

Rita Jean Coleman, was close to the Catholic Church. She gave of her time, and resources to Xavier University. Often, housing Priests, studying for the Priesthood. "Aunt" as we in the family, affectionately, called her, worked for Mrs. Edith Stern, at Longue Vue Gardens, for 28 years. Mrs. Stern, Owner of the Sears Empire, would take Rita with her on her travels. Mrs. Stern would rely on Rita, as a confident for many things, such as sewing to mend her clothes, fixing coffee, and assisting her daily. "Aunt" loved red roses. At Longue Vue Gardens, she was always surrounded by roses, and many plants. In the family, "Aunt" took family members to many of her travels around the world. Traveling to many places, became Rita's Hallmark. She would bring back gifts for the family and friends. Rita had the currency and stamps from all the countries she visited. Thank you, "Aunt" for opening up the world to the family. Thank you for sharing your world experiences and gifts for the benefit of everyone. And thank you for your great contribution to the Catholic Church, and Xavier University. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 8321 Burthe Street, New Orleans, LA 70118 on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 11:00am. Every single word written in this tribute For Mrs. Rita Jean Coleman is and are facts for me and my family. Rita participated in raising, nurturing and sharing all of her interest and also included me and my mother in her travels. For My 16th Birthday I was gifted a train ride to Memphis TN and a weekend stay at the Peabody Hotel with a Tour of The Graceland Mansion, and Beal Street Music. My Graduation from Ursuline Academy she was present. A trip to Acapulco-Mexico. It is Because of Rita that I have such a Great appreciation for anything to do with gardening and flowers. Rita could grow anything, her home was surrounded by all types of beautiful flowers and vegetables, and i was given the pleasure as a child and young lady of watering and helping always. Her example of friendship with my mother Mrs. Elena Johnson Wallace I will never forget. Rita WE LOVE YOU and Are Happy and Confidant that you are with GOD OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN SURRONDED BY HIS GLORY.
May God Bless you all. Toni A Paternostro, Mrs. Elena Johnson Wallace, Pamala Marie Johnson
