Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scott Funeral Home on Dec. 9, 2025.
With profound love and heavy hearts, we celebrate the life of Rita Darlene Engle, who passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on December 6, 1952, Rita lived a life filled with joy, generosity, laughter, and unwavering devotion to the people she loved.
A proud and passionate UK sports fan, Rita could light up any room with her enthusiasm-whether she was cheering on her Wildcats, singing along to her favorite Beatles Songs, or enjoying a cold Bud Lite with friends. She loved a good time and believed that life was meant to be celebrated, shared, and lived fully.
Above all else, Rita treasured her family. Being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother brought her immeasurable joy. Her heart shone brightest when she was surrounded by her grandchildren, who lovingly knew her as Granny. She delighted in every moment with them-whether she was celebrating their milestones, offering encouragement, or simply holding them close.
Rita's kitchen was a place of warmth, comfort, and near-legendary treats. Her peanut butter fudge and cheese balls were cherished staples at every gathering, crafted with the same love she poured into everything she did. Her generous spirit and compassion defined her; she would drop everything to help someone in need, always putting others first with a heart truly made of gold.
Rita is survived by her loving children, Craig Dunn (Laura), Rhonda Rosbottom (Robert), and Renae Dunn; her grandchildren, Gavin, Hunter (Elizabeth) and Ashton; her great-grandchild, Emory; her sister, Mary Gray; her lifelong friends, Terri Trussell and Julie Kelly; and her honorary daughter, Morgan Bailey Brendle. Each of them carries forward her legacy of kindness, humor, and unconditional love.
She is preceded in death by her precious great-granddaughter, Everleigh, and her siblings Charlene McAllister, Joseph Thomas, Howard Mitchell, Shirley Ann Mitchell, Joann Mitchell, Carolyn Hibbard, and Edward Mitchell. Though she is reunited with many loved ones who passed before her, she leaves behind a family and community forever changed by her presence.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 PM at Scott Funeral Home, located at 2515 Veterans Parkway,
Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Rita's life was a gift to all who knew her. Her laughter, her love, and her generous spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the same love she so freely gave in life.
