Rita Genz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Higgins Home for Funerals, Inc. on Jan. 3, 2026.
Rita Genz, age 99, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at her home in Warren, New Jersey, surrounded by her loving family.

Rita was born on September 10, 1926, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to the late Charles and Jane Tumblety. She was raised in Roselle Park, where she spent her childhood and formative years before later settling in Warren. It was there that Rita made her home for more than 50 years with her beloved late husband, Brian Genz, building a life rooted in faith, family, and quiet generosity.

A hard-working and dedicated woman, Rita was employed for many years as a bookkeeper, a role that reflected her diligence, reliability, and attention to detail. Beyond her professional life, Rita was deeply devoted to her faith and was a longtime, dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of the Mount Roman Catholic Church in Warren.

Rita found great joy and peace in her garden, where she could often be found tending to her flowers, a pastime she cherished and devoted countless hours to. Though she did not have children of her own, Rita's life was filled with family. She shared a close and loving bond with her nieces and nephews, as well as her great-nieces and great-nephews. She was especially devoted to caring for several of her great-nieces and nephews while their parents were at work, and she treasured the time she spent with Brandon, Erin, and Casey.

Known for her generosity and compassion, Rita quietly supported many charitable causes throughout her life and even sponsored children in other countries, reflecting her deep concern for others and her strong moral values. She was a woman of remarkable strength, perseverance, and quiet resolve - qualities that defined her long and meaningful life.

Rita was predeceased by her beloved husband, Brian Genz. She is lovingly remembered by her nine nieces and nephews and her many great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom will miss her dearly.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, at our Lady of the Mount Chapel, 167 Mount Bethel Rd., Warren, NJ 07059, from 11 am to 12 pm, followed by a funeral mass. Cremation services will be held privately.
