Rita Kent, 96, passed away at Dougherty Hospice on January 20, 2026.
Rita Marie Kent passed away at the age of 96 on January 20th, 2026. Rita was born the youngest of 13 on April 27, 1929, in St. Charles, NB, Canada, to Joseph “Jos” Daigle and Elise Daigle.
Rita was united in marriage with Dennis Kent on August 20th, 1955. Rita met Dennis at a dance near the Loring Air Force Base where he was stationed.
After Dennis completed his service they moved to Sioux Falls starting a family raising 5 kids. Rita worked as head lunch lady at Jane Addams Elementary School for 25 years and greatly cherished the years her children attended school there. Rita lived a life of prayer and service as a Catholic Daughter at the Cathedral of St. Joseph and volunteered at nonprofit organizations as a devout Catholic.
Rita's most valuable possession in life was her family. Her joy was found in the time she spent with them, and her faith was reflected in her devotion to them.
Survivors include her children: Marie (Brian) Singleton, Pierre, SD; Mark Kent, Garden City, KS; Barb (Ray) Tellez, Abilene, TX; Jim (Judy) Kent, Sioux Falls, SD; and John Kent, Broken Bow, NE; and seven grandchildren: Michael (Rachel) and Nicholas (Kaylee) Kent; Tessa and Theron Singleton; Camillio, Christopher, and Michelle Tellez; and four great‑grandchildren, McKenna, Luella, Grayson, and Charlotte.
Rita was preceded by her husband, Dennis Kent, and her 12 siblings, including Adolphe, Bella, Nathalie, Ida, Alcide, and Bertha.
Blessed be her memory.
