Rita Elaine Kirkland, 73, decided on December 8, 2025, that she'd finally had her fill of this world's chaos. So, in true Rita fashion, she packed up her sass, her strength, and her stubborn sparkle and made a graceful exit-leaving the rest of us standing in her dust, blinking, and wondering how on earth we're supposed to manage without her.
Born on July 27th, 1952 in
Jacksboro, Texas. Rita grew up in Post Oak, Texas and attended her school days to graduating from Midway. She was known for her sharp wit, her sharper tongue, and a sense of humor that could make you laugh even when you absolutely shouldn't. If Rita said it, you could bet it was true-maybe brutally so-but always with a heart underneath.
Rita loved deeply and widely. She enjoyed life's simple pleasures: a good cup of coffee with her husband; a quiet moment on the porch, contemplating the next project; spending time with the ducks, chickens, geese, turkeys, pigs, and cows; manicuring the yard; and being with her kids. She took pride in everything she cared for, celebrating their offsprings, joys, and seasons.
Rita leaves behind her husband, Kenneth Kirkland, "pride and joy son," Jimmy Davis, her daughter, Zita Johnston, husband, Joseph. Step-son Kyle Kirkland, wife Chrissy. Step-son Ryan Kirkland, wife Julie. Her Brother, Jimmy Riddle, wife Diana and her dog, Sister, will miss her fiercely.
Nana is the most precious name she was called by her grandchildren. Donnie Brunson, wife Nicole, Kaila Whittaker, husband Gavin were by her side for days prior and also held her hand as she left this world. She loved her grandchildren Matthew Davis, wife Lauren, Jordan Routon-Davis, husband Johnny. Jarrett Davis, partner Jalen. She has 5 great-grandchildren, Natalie Davis, Grayson Davis, Kyler Kirkland, and Jack Kirkland, and Karli Kirkland.
Rita also leaves behind friends who will forever miss her smile, her honesty, and the way she made every room feel warmer just by stepping into it. Her dear friend, Peggy Walker, visited and called, so faithfully. Her long time friend, Suzie Vetter, loyally called daily, sending love and prayers. We will be forever grateful for the love you extended.
Rita was preceded in death by her Father, Leon Riddle. Her beloved mother, Minnie Phillips, Her brother, Ross Riddle and her late husband, Clinton Finley Jr.
Honoring Rita's wishes, the family will not be holding a visitation or funeral. She lived her life without seeking the spotlight, and she preferred things to stay simple and sincere. If you would like to say your goodbyes, please take a quiet moment in your own way, knowing she would be grateful for the thought.
