Rita Liles Obituary

Rita Huddleston Liles passed away peacefully at 81 on June 12, 2023. She was born on April 16, 1942, in Huntington, West Virginia, and went on to graduate from Hollins College. She enjoyed a lengthy career in interior decorating, in which she started her own business to offer advice and ideas to others.

Rita loved gardening, playing golf, and taking long walks with her friends. For the past 30 years, her grandchildren were the light of her life. Above all else, she enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events, supporting their childhood recitals, and spending quality time with them. Rita was extremely passionate about their interests and endeavors, often following the grandchildren's favorite sporting teams along with them. Her children and grandchildren will greatly miss her encouraging smile.

Rita was predeceased by her mother and father, Jack and "Rita" Huddleston, and her husband, Arthur Davis Liles. She is survived by her two daughters, Margaret Liles Eck (EC) and Elizabeth Liles Broach (Charles), and her six grandchildren: Wyatt, Claudia, and Cole Eck and Jack, Ned, and Davis Broach.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Association, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, Virginia 23502. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be offered to the family at hdoliver.com.

There was never a brighter light in this universe than when Rita entered a room. That big smile and warm hug or laugh made you feel like a million. And yes, she loved her grandkids. It did not matter what was going on un her life, she pushed it away and cheered her grandchildren on. From Wyatt to Davis, they were perfect in every way.
Rita was as gorgeous on the inside as she was on the outside. From Libbie Market to any high end store you'd find Rita and never short of a great story.
I can only imagine the cocktail party in Heaven right now, and for sure it won't be quiet! She never met a stranger and never left anyone out.
Rock on Rita, Heaven may need a do over !
I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers

So sad to read that Rita has left us. She was a bright light of sunshine and fun for years - bringing us cheese grits at Christmas, traveling to Chicago to help me decorate a condo, playing golf with Mom, joining the gang at Pegasus - and cheering on all grandkids and pet dogs! And of course, always looking spectacular and telling us about the antics of her own kids and grandkids. Her energy, her laughter and her love. Bless her heart. Thanks for the sweet memories, Rita.

Rita extended a subtle kindness @ a moment of family stress during a Ski trip in the 1980's that I shall always maintain in my -personal- Book Of Memories. Rest in Peace.
