Rita Jonette Reed

Rita Jonette Russell Reed, 88, of Palmyra, MO, passed away at 10:17 AM, Friday, March 13, 2026, at her home, surrounded by family and loved ones.

There will be no services at this time.

Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, MO.

Rita was born March 13, 1938, in Mercer County, MO, to John Russell and Helen Lake Russell. She married Raymond Otis Reed on February 1, 1969, in Hannibal, MO. They were united in marriage for 57 years. He survives.

Other survivors include her children, Helen (David) Burkhardt of Palmyra, MO, Sheree (Steve) Weddle of Marrow, OH, Kathy Tuley of Palmyra, MO, Ed (Julie) O'Leary of Palmyra, MO, 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Joann Vail, and son-in-law, Edgar L. Tuley Jr.

Rita cherished the time spent with her husband, Raymond, and with all her family. Rita was a faithful member of Mission Hill Baptist Church and worked for many years as a supervisor at Mission Hill Christian Academy, where she helped form the lives of many students and families.

She especially enjoyed her Saturday mornings with the "coffee girls." After coffee they would hit the hot spots, Ben Franklin and Nearly New, and taking strolls down Main Street. Rita will be remembered for her laughter, energy, and love of dancing and music.

Rita was a faithful member of Mission Hill Baptist Church.
