Mr. RJ Evans, 91, passed away March 16, 2025. He was born November 26,1933, in Yadkin County to the late John Henry Evans and Lucy Wagoner Evans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Elgabrowny; his brother, Edward (Doris) Evans; and a son-in-law, Steve Caudill. RJ was retired from Chatham Manufacturing. He loved working, especially in his garden and wood working as he built the decks at his home and built several pieces of furniture. He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Judy Layell Evans; his children, Lynn Caudill, Ellen (Keith) Tulbert, Jason (Lauren) Evans; grandchildren, Josh Tulbert (Traci Balance), Julie Tulbert (Caleb Bowers), Kaitlin Evans; great-grandchildren, Bobbi Elgabrowny, Ibi Elgabrowny; sister, Martha Matthews; grandson-in-law, Taurik Elgabrowny; brother-in-law, Joe (Betty) Layell; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends, Friday, March 21, 2025 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Swaims Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM at the church with Rev. Gordon Macemore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Mtn. Valley Hospice for the loving care shown to RJ and his family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 7027 Albert Pick Rd., Suite 104, Greensboro, NC 27409. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Jonesville is serving the Evans family.
