Avery Leon Winters, 87, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at his home in Jonesville, North Carolina. He was born October 9, 1938, to Avery Dale and Selma Evans Winters. Leon retired from a long career at Unifi as a second shift warehouse supervisor in 1997. He loved gardening, sports, music, animals, and Westerns. In his younger days, he was known as Speed, after the song "Speedo" by The Cadillacs. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donnie Stephen Winters and Jack Woodruff. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rita Ann Waldrup Winters, of the home, and his daughter and son-in-law, Autumn Winters and Jason Morningstar (Durham, N.C.). To honor Leon's final wishes, no services will be held. Please plant vegetables, fruits, and flowers in his memory.
