Robbie Collins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goldfinch Funeral Home - Conway Chapel on Mar. 6, 2026.
Mr. Robbie Joe Collins, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home on the family farm on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

Born May 27, 1939 in Conway he was the son of the late Willie Elmo Collins and the late Agnes Langford Collins who died while Robbie Joe was just a toddler. He was lovingly raised by his dad and step-mom, Bonnie Dunn Collins.

Mr. Collins retired from the Sun News following forty years of faithful service, an accomplishment he was very proud of. He was equally proud of his military service in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division from 1962 until 1964. Robbie Joe was a faithful member of Juniper Bay Baptist Church as long as his health permitted.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers Ralph Collins, Grady Collins, and Hal Collins.

Survivors include his wife of eighteen years, Mildred C. Collins; his daughter, Sheila Sather and husband Aaron of Ludowici, GA; his grandchildren, Ashlon, Breana, and Joshua; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Members of his extended family by his marriage to Mildred include Vicki C. Ward and husband Lauren; Chris Cannon and wife Carrie; grandchildren, Judson Ward and wife Kasey, Jentry Ward, and Casey McKee; and great-granddaughter, Kaylee Ward.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 8, 2026 from 3:00PM - 4:00PM at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. Please sign the online guest register at www.goldfinchfuneralhome.com

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the hospice team and Carol Stevens, R.N., for the loving and compassionate care extended to Mr. Collins during his illness.

Memorial donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.

Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
