Robert Earl Allen, most commonly known as Bob Allen, 82, of Henderson, Texas, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and community icon, passed away surrounded by his family, the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 in Tyler, Texas.
Bob was born to Jim and Ethel Jane Allen on November 18, 1939 in Henderson, Texas. He attended Hill High Colored School and joined Mother Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and faithful member until his passing. Bob met, fell in love, and married his wife of 55 years, Billie Jean Hill, who remained faithful and at his side. This union brought two sons, Michael and Mitchell Allen.
Bob is best known around Texas as the owner of one of Texas Monthly's favorite barbecue restaurants, Bob's Barbecue. Bob's Barbecue has been providing southern style barbecue to the community for over 42 years. His restaurant remained family owned and operated with his wife, Billie and their sons, Michael and Mitchell.
Bob was an icon in his community of Henderson, Texas. His name is synonymous with barbecue. He was a member of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce for 39 years and served as a Henderson Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors member from March 1994 until February 1997.
Bob never met a stranger and he always greeted everyone with a smile when they came into his restaurant. Henderson, Texas won't be the same without him.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Ethel Allen, Brother, Wayne Allen, and his sister, JoAnn Allen Miley.
Robert Earl Allen leaves to cherish his forever memories, His Loving Wife of 55 years, Mrs. Billie Allen; Sons, Mitchell Allen(Crystal) and Michael Allen(Traci); Brothers, James Allen(Alma), Rev. Billy Allen(Diane); Sister, Hattie Allen; Four Grandchildren, Nehemiah Allen, Christain Allen, Naudiah Allen, Collin Allen; and a hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends.
