Mr. Robert Cornelius Murray Barnes, 78, gained his heavenly wings on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 9:45am at the Veterans Affair Hospital in Louisville. He was born March 14, 1947, in Bardstown to the late Samuel Lee Barnes and Mary Liza Murray. He lost his mother at an early age, leaving him to be raised by his grandmother the late Alice Murray, his aunt, Gertrude Barber, his cousin and mentor, John Ed Johnson, and Virginia Stivers who still survives. Robert joined the Air Force after graduating high school. When he returned home to Bardstown, he was employed by Lily Tulips which later became Owen Illinois where he was a press man. He later retired from Owen Illinois and moved to Louisville. Robert was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Louisville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Byron Clifton Knott, a brother, Joseph Samuel Barnes III, and sisters, Vivian Barnes and Patricia Lynn Barnes. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, William Duncan of Bardstown, Michael Parrish, Jerry Livers, Tyra D. Livers, all of Louisville, Jason (Melissa) Livers of New Haven, Meredith Livers of Bardstown, Carvel Knott of Elizabethtown, Lionel Knott of Louisville and Rosanna' George of Louisville, his siblings, Donald Cato Payne of Louisville, Marie Barnes of Pontiac, MI., Barbara Barnes of Denver, CO., Susan Ann Barnes of Atlanta, GA., and Lisa Kay Barnes of Tupelo, MS. A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to give special thanks to everyone that called, texted, sent prayers and hugs. The support through this time means more to them than you will ever know. Funeral services for Mr. Robert Cornelius Murray Barnes will be 12:00pm, Monday, December 22, 2025, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home in Bardstown, Rev. Roscoe Linton officiating. Interment will be in KY Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff. Visitation will be after 10:00am Monday at the funeral home until the time of service. The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
