Robert Barrett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McEvoy Funeral Home, Inc. - Paris on Jul. 12, 2025.
Robert Clinton "Skint" Barrett, age 99, of Paris, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15th, at First Baptist Church in Paris, with Dr. Trent Bullock and Bro. Larry Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Walker Cemetery in Cottage Grove, TN. Visitation will be at McEvoy Funeral Home on Monday, July 14th, from 4:00-7:00 pm and again on Tuesday, July 15th, after 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church prior to the service.

Robert Clinton Barrett was born on February 28, 1926, to the late Frank and Minnie Lou Hunt Barrett. He married Betty McKennon Barrett on July 2, 1950, and she survives in Paris.

Mr. Barrett was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and was an ordained Baptist Deacon. He was a Cottage Grove High School graduate and, at the time of his death, was the oldest living graduate. Skint was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. He owned and operated Barrett Electric Company for 40-plus years. He continued to work for another 40 years after he sold the business. Most often his jobs were done from the giving and servant's heart that he was so well known for. Skint was a member of Constructors for Christ and the Paris Kiwanis. He was well known throughout the area as an avid "corn grower" and provided free corn to many Henry Countians and as far away as North Carolina. Mr. Barrett enjoyed walking with his church friends and his daughters.

In addition to his wife, Skint is also survived by daughters: Debby Ferrell of Mebane, NC, Kristy (James) Crawford of Paris, Gini (David John) Roberts of Paris, and Emily (Jim) Baker of Paris; brother, Jimmy Barrett of Paris; grandchildren: Lindsey Ferrell (Paul) Alexander, Kelly Ferrell, Denny (Jerianne Thompson) Crawford, Barry (Laura) Crawford, and Ashley (John) Allen; six great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.

Besides his parents, Mr. Barrett was also preceded in death by his sister, Alice Phillips; brother, Charles Barrett; and daughter, Kathy Janette Barrett, who preceded him in infancy.

In place of flowers and gifts, his family prefers that memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church Operation Christmas Child, 313 N. Poplar Street, Paris, TN 38242, or to the charity of your choice.
