Robert Wayne Barton, 78, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
Graveside Service is 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 10 at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Wayne was born February 15, 1947 to Morris Wilson and Cora Mae (Godwin) Barton in Lake City, Florida. Upon graduation from Wellington High School in 1965, he enlisted in the United States Army. Wayne proudly served his country in the XVIII Airborne Corp, which was the headquarters of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions. The Wise County Veterans Group will provide Honors at the Cemetery. He was united in marriage October 22, 1971 to Glenna Louise Taylor in Wellington, Texas. After his service, he worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 37 years as a signal maintainer. A die-hard Texas Longhorn fan, he was also passionate about working in his yard and gardening. Over the years he treasured his weekly trips to the “coffee shop” with his dear friend, Sid Hawkins. Above all, Wayne cherished his family, adoring his wife and delighting in watching his grandchildren participate in their various events.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Cora Mae Barton; and one brother, John Barton.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Glenna Barton of Decatur; his daughters, Dwanna Harp of Fate, and Melissa Ledgerwood and husband Harold of Decatur; 4 grandchildren, Taylor Archer of Dallas, Kelsey Archer of Rockwall, Brooklyn Moore and husband Jordan of Haslet, and Beau Bedford and fiancee Victoria Chapa of Bridgeport; great-grandchildren, Blakely Bedford and Sinclair Moore; 2 brothers, William Barton of Amarillo, and Marion Barton and wife Faina of Augusta, Georgia; extended family and a host of friends. Wayne was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many who will dearly miss him.
