Robert P. Batzel

Mr. Robert P. (Bob) Batzel, of Lawrenceville, GA, formerly of Stone Mountain, GA, and Avon, NY , passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at age 90, following an extended illness. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves and retired from BellSouth Corp. as a Cable Repairman after 40 years of loyal and dedicated service, where he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Bob was a true American patriot and a gentleman, and an amazing son, brother, uncle, husband, father, and grandfather. Bob loved his family, serving others in need, and was loved by all. Bob was a talented, avid golfer with multiple holes-in-one to his credit and was a long-time member of Cedar Lake Golf Club in Loganville, GA, where he was honored with the Bob Batzel Member-Member annual golf tournament. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Joan M. (Carlie) Batzel, parents, Harold W. and Marilla (Desmann) Batzel, daughter-in-law Lori (Patterson) Batzel, siblings: Theron D. Batzel (Geraldine), Donald H. Batzel (Shirley), M. Joyce Peri (Albert), M. Jean Bartlett (William) and Betty L. Fisher. Survivors include his sons, Jeffrey of Lilburn, GA; granddaughters Sarah Batzel (Coty Malone) of Norcross, GA, and Kelly Atwood (Matthew) of Atlanta, GA; and Tracy of Dallas, GA; granddaughter Hope Coker (Reed) of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law Dorothy ("Dottie") Batzel of Evans, GA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives also survive. The family lovingly thanks all the exceptional caregivers and staff members at Meadowbrook Health & Rehabilitation in Tucker, GA, especially Ozy, Kim, and Belle, and extended family caregivers Michele Weston (Ty) and Gerold Martin (Sarah). Family will receive friends at Wages & Sons Funeral Home, 1040 Main Street, Stone Mountain, GA 30083, on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, 5373 Wydella Rd. SW, Lilburn, GA 30047. Interment will immediately follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 3150 Lawrenceville Hwy., Tucker, GA 30084, followed by a luncheon reception in the Fellowship Hall at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church. Honorary pallbearers include Brian Batzel, Larry Smith, John O'Neal, Reed Coker, Matthew Atwood, and Ty Weston.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, St. Stephen the Martyr Conference, 5373 Wydella Rd. So very sorry to hear about Bob. Frank and I both worked with Bob and enjoyed him very much. Frank and Bob enjoyed their friendship very much. They enjoyed teasing each other. Bob and Ms Joan are together again and pain free. Prayers to the family that their wonderful memories will help them through this hard time.
