Gene Charles Batzel

December 1, 1943 - December 6, 2024

Gene Charles Batzel, passed away on December 6, 2024. He was born December 1, 1943 to Elaine (Orma) Batzel (Volla) and Walter Charles Batzel of West Salem, WI. He graduated from West Salem High School in 1961, he attended the University at Stevens Point taking in the Conservation Program.

Gene spent the summer of 1963 in Montana, working for the Forest Service. Gene joined the Army as an Engineer and was stationed in Germany 1964-1967. While in Europe, he spent time in several countries, laying runways as an engineer, and meeting his future wife, Ingrid G. Batzel (Salowsky).

Gene and Ingrid got married on December 1, 1966 in Germany and had just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary and Gene's 81st birthday.

Gene worked as a Lineman for GTE while living in Ohio where they lived for 20yrs. They then pursued his dream of living in Montana for a year, after which, they ended up moving back to West Salem.

Gene was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, and being in nature. He often said he was closer to god when in nature than anywhere else.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ken Batzel of Holmen. He is survived by his wife, Ingrid; two children: Nicole Batzel of Stevens Point, Lars Batzel of DePere, and his brother, Charles Batzel of West Salem.

The family is planning a celebration of life at a date TBD in West Salem. We will celebrate his hell raising life, as he would have wished. Gene believed if he could not enjoy life-what is the point!

The Pisarski Funeral Home of Stevens Point was honored to be serving the family.
