Robert Peter "Pete" Baylis was born September 18, 1947, in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Robert and Marion Baylis. Pete Baylis went onto to be with his Lord on January 1, 2026 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He is proceeded in death by his father Robert Baylis and Mother Marion Baylis along with one brother Thomas "Tim" Baylis. He is survived by his four children with ex-wife Karen Baylis Jenkins; Robert and wife Melinda Baylis who reside in Florida; Stephanie and husband Sunny Dizon who reside in Texas; James and wife Christy Baylis who reside in Louisiana and Phillip Baylis who also resides in Louisiana. Grandchildren Victoria Baylis, Haylin Dizon, Holdin Dizon, McKenzie Cantu and husband Damian Cantu, Landen Greene and wife Lauren Greene, Hayden Price, Taylor Baylis, Beth Jordan, Addison "Addie" Jordan, Addison Baylis, Kylin Baylis and Kaylin Baylis as well as six great grandchildren; sisters Peg Stuart & Jane Rivard; brothers Jesse Baylis and Dan Baylis, eight nieces and nephews, 18 great nieces and nephews along with countless customers/clients, acquaintances and friends, namely two close business friends; "Long" and "Gatti", along with others he met in the Shreveport Bossier area and within the auto mechanic field, from over the years.

Robert "Pete" Baylis graduated from Dexter High School and continued his education at Le Tourneau College in Longview, Texas where he graduated with his degree in mechanical technology and A&P license in aircraft. After graduating, Pete went on to start a family there in Longview, Texas. Pete welcomed three of his four children: Robert, Stephanie and James to the world and called Longview home for several years. Pete continued to work at Gorman-McCraken VW-Mazda Dealership as a mechanic to support their family. However, Pete had such a passion for rebuilding things, a vision and great hard work ethic, that in 1978 it would lead him and his family to Lafayette, Louisiana, where he would make his vision become a reality by opening the first Baylis Auto Repair shop. After spending a few years in Lafayette Pete and his family decided to take a leap of faith to grow the business and move one last time to the big city of Shreveport, Louisiana. Which also led to his growing family! Shortly after arriving in Shreveport Pete announced the birth of his youngest son and his little family business, Baylis Auto Repair, originally located on the corner of 70th Street and Linwood Avenue. Pete continued to work hard and proudly welcomed his sons into the business, which allowed for Baylis Auto Repair to expand, just like Pete dreamed it could be years ago. Pete continued to build this dream and shared a love for rebuilding cars with his son Robert. Once known as the little shop on the corner had become a well-known repair shop on Mansfield Road, where most people have known him to be for over two decades and where Pete would spend most of his time until the day he passed. Pete put all he had into the 45 plus year business and his family. Pete had an abundance of love for his Lord and Savior, kids, grandkids and repairing or fixing up vehicles, starting with the old VW bug of course! Pete got to live out two of his dreams, watching a vision become reality and watching his kids and grandkids learn from him the ropes of the auto mechanic world. He had hopes of one day all of his sons carrying it on after his time here on earth had passed.

When Pete was not at the shop or home with the family you could find him in church every Sunday and had found a church home in Brookwood Baptist Church. Pete was a man of few words however the ones he did use definitely set him apart like, shenanigans, hubbub, yeah/yep, cam down or more less "keep cam" as he always said or at least once a day! So, while Pete will be missed, we will all try to "keep cam", carry on his memory in our hearts and wait to meet again for little shop talk over a good cup of coffee but without all the silly shenanigans from them blasted flying kids!

Laughter aside, along with Pete's choice words that made him who he was, if Pete were here today, he would say to love each other and always remember to say your prayers.
