ROBERT E. BERGANTINO age 90, beloved husband of the late Laura (nee DePuy) for 49 years; loving father of Bob (Betsy), David, Craig, and Joel (Jodie); devoted grandfather of Eric (Lauren), Adam (Liz), Ross, Jayden, and Ashley, and great grandfather of Noah and Levi; cherished son of the late Anthony Bergantino and the late Ruth Bergantino (nee Madia); dearest brother of the late Rudy, Agnes, Ruthann, and Linda; treasured companion to his dog, Dortmunder.
Robert was born on September 2, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he ultimately made a home for his family and left an enduring legacy in the community of music education. After graduating from Lincoln High School, Bob attended Baldwin Wallace University, where he received the Distinguished Alumni Award. His love and passion for music took him to Kent State University where he earned his master's degree and went on to a career in music education. He became a teacher and orchestra director at Cleveland Heights High School. There, Bob shared his love of music with hundreds of students over the years, as well as overseas as a director for the American Music Abroad program. Bob and his wife, Laura, were blessed with four boys with whom he also shared his love of music, while proudly supporting their own individual interests. Key among the activities they shared as a family were their summer vacations, driving cross-country, camper in tow, to most of the 50 states. Bob continued to travel after retirement, exploring the world with friends on cruises and guided tours. He influenced countless lives and will continue to do so in the Cleveland area through the Heights Civic Orchestra, now known as the Heights Chamber Orchestra, which he founded in 1983. In addition, Bob had a long career as a Registered Piano Technician and was a member of The Singers' Club of Cleveland. Though Bob's passing on March 20, 2025, brings deep sadness, the memory of his vivid personality, passion for music, his accomplishments and his encouragement of others' success will continue to be a source of joy and inspiration well into the future.
