Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel - PensacolaRobert “Bob” James Espersen, 84, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026.
Bob was born on the 4th of July 1941, in Mineola, NY to Vera Elizabeth (Blackburn) and George A. Espersen. He grew up in Dobbs Ferry, NY, where he attended Dobbs Ferry High School, Trinity Pauling Prep School in Pauling, NY. He graduated from Union College in Schenectady, NY with a Degree in History and Political Science. He was a member of the PSi Sigma Kappa Fraternity and enjoyed weekends with his fraternity brothers. It was there at Union College where he met Sharon Hahn. They were married in Schenectady, NY and started their family, Eric D. and Pamela D. Espersen. During summers from college, Bob worked for Nabisco Corporation Complaint Department, and for Westchester County taking water samples on Long Island. After college he started working for the Federal Government in Scotia, NY.
In 1974, he was transferred to Pensacola, FL where he worked for the Navy Advancement Center, Dept Exam Development Division (NETPDTC) Instructional Systems Specialist Command Central work. He retired in 2001 and started traveling with Sharon on many cruises to Europe, Russia, Alaska, joined the Panhandle Seniors, and enjoyed many years going to Grayton Beach. He enjoyed officiating his son’s swim meets, assisting with his daughter’s Brownie and Girl Scout Campouts, as well as camping with his grandkids. He had great joy in flying kites with Daniel and listening to Alex play his trumpet.
Bob was also a member of the Daylily Club of America. He grew daylilies and won numerous prizes. He was an avid reader of all kinds of literature and religious material. He enjoyed attending concerts on the lawn at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church, The Soul Feast Sunday School Class, and the Joe Harrell Men’s Bible Study.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Pamela D. Espersen Schang.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon R. Hahn Espersen; sons, Eric D. Espersen (Dee Jay), Daniel A. Espersen, and Alex DeAngelis (Tristan); son-in-law, John Schang; granddaughter, Isabella H. Schang; adopted granddaughter, Sarah Creary; great grandson, Mickey; and brother, William G. Espersen of Dobbs Ferry, NY.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00pm Saturday, March 14, 2026, at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Geoffrey Lentz and Rev. Brennan Peacock officiating. Family Committal Service will be held at Bayview Memorial Park.
Active Pallbearers will be Leland Lenard, William Uhl, John Schang, Travis Craig Daniel Espersen, and Alexander DeAngeis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Living Trust, 6 E. Wright St., Pensacola, FL 32501, in memory of Robert Espersen or Pamela Schang.
