Robert Palmer Obituary

Robert R. Palmer

January 26, 1944 - July 16, 2025

Robert R (Bob) Palmer, 81, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Hoover Palmer; daughters Mary Hall (Mike) of Winterville, N.C., and Barbara Jordan (Kyle) of Aurora, Ill.; sister, Lynn Ripley (Bob) of Gloucester, Va.; and five grandchildren- Matthew Hall (Danielle); Megan Hall; Kate Jordan; Sara Jordan; Jack Jordan.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Florine Palmer; and a brother, Charles Palmer, Jr.

In addition to being a wonderful and caring husband, dad, and Pop-Pop, Bob was always inspired to give back to the community. Since 1965, he actively served the congregation and the Lord in a variety of roles at Richmond's First Baptist Church. He loved this extended family and devoted much of his time and talents to various church ministries.

He was active in the educational and leadership programs of the U.S. Power Squadrons at the district and national levels and served twice as the Commander of the local Richmond Sail and Power Squadron.

Bob graduated from Hampton High School and Virginia Military Institute (VMI). He later received his advanced degree from VPI & SU (Virginia Tech) in Engineering. He retired from a rewarding career at Dupont after 40 plus years of service.

A service celebrating his life will be held at First Baptist Church, 2709 Monument Ave., Richmond, Va., on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 1 p.m. A reception will immediately follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church.
