Columbiana – Robert “Bob” Vaughn, age 94, of Columbiana, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Whispering Pines Village in Columbiana, where he had resided the past eight years.
Bob was born on May 30, 1931, in Salem, son of the late Willard and Ruth Cope Vaughn.
Bob was a 1949 graduate of Columbiana High School where he was an accomplished student and athlete. A favorite coach nicknamed him “Arky”. Bob was in the US Army and was a corporal for the signal corp in the Philippines during the Korean War. Following college, he had worked as a mechanical engineer for several companies, retiring from Taylor Winfield of Warren. Bob was a member of St. Jude Roman Catholic Church. He had been active with the Columbiana Jaycees and enjoyed golfing and mowing his lawn. Most recently he loved bingo, daily exercises and field trips at Whispering Pines.
His spouse, Susan Lyden Vaughn, whom he married on August 27, 1977, preceded him in death in May 2003.
Bob is survived by his two daughters, Leesa Plaskett (David) Edelstein of Columbiana, Leanne (Stephen Matranga) Jacobson of Monrovia, CA; his son, Daniel G. (Irwin Spolter) Vaughn of Salem; step-son, Mark Lyden of Boardman; seven grandchildren, Jesse (Andrea) Plaskett, Cody (Kasey) Plaskett, Eli (Sara) Plaskett, James Edelstein, Jaclyn Edelstein, Mark ( Mary) Jacobson, CJ (Erik Zeda) Jacobson; three step-grandchildren, Sarah Merriman, Matthew Lyden and Jade Lyden; and six great-grandchildren.
He was also on preceded in death by a sister, Martha Joan Beatty.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana where services will follow at 11:00 am. with Deacon Christopher Evans officiating. Following the service at the funeral home, military honors will be accorded by the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion Honor Guard.
Burial will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens, Canfield.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Whispering Pines Village for all their care and support.
