Robert L. West of Morgantown passed away July 13, 2025. West, 72, was the son of Robert and Joann (Foor) West and grew up on Goshen Road where his family had resided for over 200 years. He attended Morgantown High School (class of 1970) and WVU, where he studied physics.

"Bob" had a lifelong love of learning and loved to share what he had learned with anyone who was interested. He played the guitar and formed a band called The Chaparrals while at Westover Jr. High, performing at local dances. Later he enjoyed playing country western music with his father. He obtained his ham radio license at an early age and belonged to, as well as held office in, several amateur radio organizations. His interests were many and included astronomy and electronics as well as physics. He loved a good movie or television show, especially one that tickled his funny bone. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was generous to a fault.

He was a fifty-year member and past Master of Morgantown Union Lodge #4.

After briefly working for the WVU Department of Physics, West was employed as systems administrator and technical writer for Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas. Upon returning to Morgantown, he was systems administrator at BAE Systems IT in Clarksburg, WV. West is survived by several much-loved cousins and two particularly good friends, Erik Nantz and Mike DeHaan who assisted him in so many ways as his health declined.

Memorial services will be held at the Goshen Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 29 at 11:00 am with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary cemetery with Masonic graveside services conducted by Morgantown Union Lodge #4 AF & AM. McCulla Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McCulla.com.
