Robert “Bob” E. Wright, 86, of Adel, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at UnityPoint Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – Adel Chapel, with visitation beginning one hour prior at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Earlham Cemetery in Earlham. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.caldwellparrish.com.
Bob was born on June 18, 1939, in Dallas County, Iowa, the son of Claude and Edna (Joiner) Wright. He graduated from DeSoto High School with the Class of 1959.
On November 28, 1959, Bob was united in marriage to Diane Kay Slater, at the United Methodist Church in Earlham. Together, they built a life in Adel and were blessed with two children, Scott and Sheryl. Bob and Diane shared 66 wonderful years of marriage.
Bob dedicated 34 years of service to the Iowa Department of Transportation, retiring in 2001. In his free time, he enjoyed attending auctions, vegetable gardening, mowing, birdwatching and feeding birds, and woodworking. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren’s games and activities, which brought him great pride and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Diane Wright of Adel; his daughter, Sheryl (Dennis) Brown of Kansas; his son, Scott (Misty) Wright of Earlham; and his grandchildren: Christopher (Cassie) Ham and their daughter, Cora, of Murray; Eric Wright and his son, Joseph, of Earlham; and Amy (Missy) Wright and their children, Payten and Lucas, of Humboldt. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Edna Wright; five sisters; and one brother.
