Robert G. Braasch, Sr., 89, of Romeoville, IL passed away June 30, 2022.
Robert, best known as "Bob" was born March 5, 1933 in Lemont, IL to Charles and Marjorie (Kirman) Braasch. Bob grew up on the family farm on Taylor Road, doing chores before and after school. Bob loved being a farmer and working on the farm. He loved working in the fields, operating equipment, driving tractors, and especially walking the fields checking the crops.
Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army 33rd Infantry Regiment. He was honorably discharged and returned home in 1955. He married his sweetheart Rosalie Zolecki and they were blessed with a wonderful family and over 66 years together.
Bob worked for Material Service, was a volunteer firefighter for Romeoville and in the 1960's a Will County Auxiliary deputy police officer. Later he went back into farming with his sons while working for the Village of Romeoville Public Works Department. Bob later became Director of Public Works, and in 1988 he retired from the Village. Bob was able to spend his days farming with his sons and his free time relaxing with his grandchildren, family, and friends.
Bob was a caring father, who worked hard sunrise to sunset. He is survived by his four loving children: Robert Jr. (Rebecca) Braasch, Barbara (Steven) McCammond, Charles (Christine) Braasch and Michael Braasch; four grandchildren: Kevin (Grecia), Jenna, Taylor, and Ryan Braasch; great-grandson Ivan Alex Braasch and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife Rosalie, his parents, Charles and Marjorie, his brother Donnie, and brothers-in-law Andy, Harry, and Leonard Zolecki, Ignatius (Iggy) Twardzik, and Harry Jungles.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Will County Farm Bureau Foundation,100 Manhattan Rd, Joliet IL 60433, to provide for agriculture education and scholarships. (
