Robert Lanier Bridges, 82, died June 7, 2025.
A native of Madison County, GA, he was a son of the late Ralph Vernon Bridges and Lucy Rogers Bridges and was also preceded in death by a brother, Ben Bridges.
Robert owned and operated Bridges Barber Shop in Statham for thirty years and served the Statham community as City Councilman followed by twenty years as Mayor. The City of Statham recognized his service to the community with their naming of The Robert L. Bridges Park.
Robert was a Volunteer Fireman for Statham for fifteen years and then worked for Athens-Clarke County Fire Department for twenty years, where he retired as a Sergeant in 2006.
Robert was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Statham for sixty-three years, where he also served as deacon. He continued to attend and support 1025 Church at Statham in that same church location. Robert enjoyed many hobbies which included traveling in the United States and abroad, as well as restoring Model A cars.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at 1025 Church of Statham. Interment will follow at Barrow Memorial Gardens. Robert will lie in state at the Church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Barbara Anne Motes Bridges; two children, Lisa (Michael) Patton and Steve Bridges; siblings, Thomas (Kathy) Bridges, Kenneth Bridges and Elaine (John) Stokes; two grandchildren, Christopher Michael (Tracey) Patton and Skylar Lanier Bridges; one great granddaughter, Clara Grace Patton; a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
