Robert Brooks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ryan Funeral Home and Crematory on Feb. 2, 2026.
Born February 7, 1938, Robert J Brooks Jr, age 87, of Chattanooga, TN, (formerly of Perry, NY) passed away on January 22, 2026 at his home. Beloved husband to Pam Brooks, father to Tracy Brooks Hardin of California, James Robert Brooks of Hawaii, and David Sean Brooks of Oregon.

Bob was a lifelong educator that has left an indelible mark in the hearts of many. He was a 1956 graduate of Perry Central High School and served in the United States Army from 1956-1957. He attended SUNY Geneseo class of 1962 and SUNY Brockport class of 1968 conferring degrees in Education.

Gracious and caring he gave generously. His sharing rewarded him tenfold and made a difference in the lives of his wife, three children, and community of schools. His successful career serving youth was as a credentialed career level III teacher and administrator with an endorsement for special education in KY and TN.

For many years he made the south his home, but his heart never left his small-town roots in Perry, New York. As the eldest son of Robert and Avis (Bush) Brooks, he goes before his two brothers Richard Brooks (Mary Jane) of Silver Springs, NY and Douglas Brooks (Sandra) of Webster, NY. He is also survived by (7) grandchildren, (5) great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

His passion for photography captured many family memories over the years, while his love of words and reading the great writers of all time, inspired him to write his story.

He will live on through the many lives he touched and more than anything his legacy in helping those that needed a loving hand were forever lifted up by his purpose to serve those most in need.

He will be eternally missed, most especially his warm smile, his quick wit and humor with contagious laughter.

For the joy pets brought to their home, donations may be made to Pet Placement Center, 5965 Dayton Blvd. Chattanooga, TN 37415. There are no calling hours and burial will be private.

Rest in peace dear husband, adored father and passionate educator, and may you ride on the wings of the music you loved while being in your special place in nature; your church in the woods, where peace and solace hold you warmly and dearly for all eternity.

Online condolences may be shared with the family at ryanfuneralhome.net.
