Larry Alan Grayson
January 8,1948 - January 29,2026
Larry Grayson, beloved husband, father, uncle and grandfather, passed away on January 29, 2026, in
Knoxville, TN. He lived a life of devotion and service, and was greeted with "well done, good and faithful servant" and is now sharing in his Master's joy. He was 78.
Larry was born in
Oak Ridge, TN, the first child of Bill and Bea Grayson. He graduated from Oliver Springs High School in 1966. He then attended Tennessee Temple College and McKenzie Business College.
Larry lived a life loving and serving his God, his Family, and his Country. Larry considered himself fortunate to serve his country and have a rewarding career. He was a proud member of the US Air Force during the Vietnam Era as a Jet Engine Technician and received a diploma in General Aviation Technology in Alabama Institute of Aviation Technology in Ozark,AL(FAA Certified Airframe and Powerplant Technician) (1969-1971). His love for aviation continued as a supervisor/aircraft technician at Greenville SC Aviation/Steven Aviation/Yergin Aviation. (1971-1976) He had the opportunity to join Oak Ridge National Lab in 1977 to support Physics division for 35 years as a millwright working on Accelerators and Cyclotrons. In 1990 his love for aviation called again and he joined 134th Air Refueling Wing McGhee Tyson AFB as a Jet Engine Technician/Shop Supervisor for 23 years. Outside of work, he served as Troop Committee Chairman with BSA Troop 59, with whom he took some of his favorite trips to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. In all of these roles, he was the first to volunteer to help anyone in need. His favorite hobbies besides spending time with his family were flying, airplanes, fishing, woodworking, ham radio, canoeing, bicycle riding, and cars.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Bea Grayson.
He is survived by his loving wife Myra Grayson, his children Jay Grayson, Amy Grayson, stepson Chad (Carrie) Rose; his grandchildren Tucker Boswell, Ansley Grayson, Ezra Michael Rose and Noa Nicole Rose; his siblings, sister Pam (Steve) Brown, brother Doug Grayson; his nephew Dustin (Christy) Adcock, nieces Lindsay (Caleb) King and Erin (Andrew) Lundquist, many grand-nieces/great grand-nieces and grand-nephews/great grand-nephews and the mother of his children Brenda Grayson-Bodie. He is also survived by loving friends from BSA Troop 59, Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans Home and Smoky Mountain Hospice.
The family will have visitations beginning at 11:30 on Wednesday, February 11, 2025 located at Click Funeral Home, 11915 Kingston Pike, Farragut TN. Immediately following the visitations, a funeral service to honor Larry will be officiated by Rev A.D. Baxter and Rev. Steve Alford. Burial will be at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery immediately following the service.
