Robert Brush, a lifetime resident of the Royal Oak, Michigan area, died on January 12, 2026, at age 78. Bob suffered from several health issues, but his death was sudden and unexpected.

Bob attended Royal Oak Kimball High School. He entered the United States Navy at age 17, serving for six years, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. Bob subsequently worked for Bell Telephone and Consumers Power before settling in as a brakeman/switchman at Conrail for the remainder of his working life.

Bob loved volleyball, camping, hiking and traveling, especially to National Parks around the country, until health problems began to limit him in these pursuits. He was devoted to Trivia, playing at least three times every week until days before his death. Bob loved animals and adopted several homeless cats during his lifetime, always lovingly seeing them through to the peaceful end of theirs. Bob was widely admired for his insightful and humorous storytelling. He had a special talent for transforming even the simplest events into engaging and lively tales, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Bob is survived by his sister, Marie Greenspan; his nephew Ian Greenspan (Amy), and great-niece Lilah Greenspan; by other younger-generation relatives; and by his friend and companion of 35 years, Lee Garcia.

A memorial service will be held at the Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.
