Robert G "Buddy" Buddy Dayton

Robert G. "Buddy" Dayton, of Burlington, WV, a devoted husband, loving grandfather, and cherished community member, passed away on October 17, 2025, at UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland, MD at the age of 79.
Born on January 16, 1946, in Junction, Hampshire County, WV, Buddy was the beloved son of Charles Edward Dayton, Sr., and Sadie Esther (Weese) Dayton. Buddy also was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Stacy Linette Baker; his brothers, Charles Edward Dayton, Jr. and his wife Mary Ellen, and Gerald Seymour Dayton and his wife Romaine; his sister, Nancy Louise Dayton; his brothers-in-law, Paul and Dann Biser; and his nephews, Shayne Biser and Adam Biser.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Carol (Biser) Dayton, and his cherished grandchildren, Austin Pierce Baker of Beckley, WV, and Alyssa Jordyn Baker and her significant other Blaize Voit of Burlington, WV. He is also remembered by his brother-in-law, Gene Biser and wife Dorothy of South Riding, VA; sisters-in-law Dianne Biser of Burlington and Barbara Biser of Inwood, WV; nieces, Dana Iser, Paula Joyce, Charlene Porter and Shannon Reel; nephew, Duane Biser and numerous grandnieces and nephews.
A 1963 graduate of Romney High School, Buddy had a successful career at the American Woodmark in Moorefield, WV, after having been employed at Kinney Shoe Factory, Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Voit's Auto, and Pilgrim's Pride. He was a man of the outdoors, loving hunting, cutting firewood, and using his chainsaw.
As a pillar of his community, Buddy served as a trustee of the Beaver Run Church of the Brethren, where he was a member. He also served as a trustee of the Beaver Run Cemetery and the Arnold Cemetery. He was a former member of the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department, contributing to the safety and well-being of his neighbors.
Visitation will be held at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 4-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Beaver Run Church of the Brethren on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Kenneth Caplinger officiating. Friends will also be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
