Robert “Rob” Jay Butler, 67, died peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2024, at his home in Fargo, ND. He passed away after several strokes and a long bout with kidney failure.
Robert, the son of Patricia Anne (Lindblom) and Robert George Butler, was born June 28, 1956,in Fargo. He grew up in Fargo, attended public school at Washington, Longfellow, and Ben Franklin, and graduated from Fargo North High School in 1974. Go Spartans!
He attended NDSU and graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor's degree in Business. He continued his education at NDSU, earning a Masters degree in Business Administration in 1980.
Except for temporary moves to West Virginia (Morgantown) and Colorado and Utah when he was a child, Robert lived his entire life in Fargo.
Robert worked at numerous jobs throughout his life, ending his career at Walmart. He especially enjoyed the opportunity to play the Easter Bunny one year at Walmart. Of all the jobs, he was most proud of mentoring students via the Upward Bound Program at NDSU.
Rob was an avid sports fan, and a diehard fan of the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings and NDSU Bison Football. His love of Bison football started in the 1960s when he attended games at Dacotah Field with his dad. His love for Twins baseball started about the same time, listening to games on the transistor radio during summer nights. That love continued through the years, including traveling to Seattle often to visit his brother and watch the Twins beat up on the Mariners. Go Twins!
Robert is survived by his sister, Christine Butler (Richard Harkins), Lee's Summit, MO, sister, Margaret (Michael) Footitt, Fargo; brother, Richard (Melissa Mager) Butler, Seatac. WA. Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
