Bob "Cabby" Cadwallader -
" Every Single Day Is a Gift"
Bob Cadwallader, 71 years old from Taswell, IN. died peacefully at the Timbers Nursing Home of Jasper, IN. For over 30 years, Bob has been the owner and operator of White Oaks Cabins, an 89-acre resort in Taswell Indiana.
Born and raised in Hillside NJ. He was an outstanding high school athlete. He wrestled for and completed his undergraduate degree at Central CT. State Teachers College.
He received a Master's Degree in Religious Education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Master's degree in social work from the Univ. of Louisville, KY.
He worked at the Klingberg Family Center in New Britain CT. while attending Central CT. He later worked as a street gang youth worker, Probation Officer, Chief Probation officer and Substance Abuse Counselor. He went on to become Director of Intake and Special programs at Jefferson Hospital in Jeffersonville, IN. There he built Southern Indiana's first ropes challenge course high in the trees behind the hospital. Helping patients challenge themselves to physically and mentally achieve, through mental and physical endurance.
Bob's life was committed to using his formal education in teaching, seminary and social work, mixed with his love of nature and the outdoors, to better peoples' lives.
Bob later purchased and developed his own little piece of heaven, White Oaks Cabins. Those who passed through his retreat, be it a cabin rental or a corporate challenge course, left with an enhanced view of life's beauty.
On many occasions, Bob spent time as a volunteer for
Doctors Without Borders, as a surgeon's assistant in Tibet. He also ran numerous fundraisers for "The Make a Wish Foundation."
He was a world traveler, who emersed himself in the culture of the local peoples. He was a dear friend of the "Sisters of St. Benedict" in Ferdinand, IN.
It is agreed by many of his friends, that Bob knew no "strangers". Everyone he met, was accepted into his circle. He was funny, charismatic and had a huge heart. His wide smile, blue eyes, bushy eyebrows, intellect, laughter and lovable energy was infectious to all he met. He will be dearly missed, by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Robert G. Cadwallader and Gladys Harding Cadwallader of Hillside, NJ.
He also was preceded in death by his 4 lovable rescue dogs - Chester, Socks, Big red and Charlie bear.
He is survived by many cousins; Roberta Abich. "Bobbe"- Leesburg, Va., Abraham Abich. "Abe" - Leesburg, Va., Joshua Abich. "Josh" - N. Bethesda, Md., Emilie Cullerton. "Em" - Yardley, Pa., Denise Cullerton - Somerset, NJ., Susan Schmauder - Newtown, Pa., Michelle Mitchell. "Miki"- Uptown, Ma., Alison Johnson - Yardley, Pa., Frances Bloom. "Francie" - Swarthmore, Pa.
He leaves behind so many friends, too numerous to be added. We all know who we are.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at the Denbo Funeral Home, English IN. On Oct. 16th, 1-3 pm.
Bob's interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside NJ. To be with his parents. Date and Time will be announced at a later date.
His family and friends wish to thank all of those who prayed for Bob, visited with him and who were part of his life.
