Robert David Callister

Robert David Callister passed away peacefully at home on April 9, 2023, at age 87. He was born in Delta, Utah in 1935 to Joseph Lathel and Margaret Church Callister, the fourth of 16 children.

 

Robert valued his relationship with his brothers and sisters. He especially loved playing ping pong every Wednesday. Growing up on a family farm, Robert learned about hard work and always had a positive outlook on life. He graduated from Delta High School, Class of 1953, excelling in many different sports, including wrestling where he was the Utah State champ as a Senior. Robert loved sharing stories about his fast-pitch softball games, choir solos, and football.

 

After high school, Robert joined the United States Army, serving from 1954 to 1956 during the Korean War at Eielson AFB, Alaska. He then served as a missionary in the Gulf State Mission from 1956 to 1958 for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Robert attended BYU, Utah State University, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Weber State University.

 

Robert faithfully held various callings in the Church, including serving as bishop and on the high council. He especially loved the youth, positively impacting their lives.

 

He married the love of his life, Sandra Morris on September 8, 1960, in the Salt Lake City Temple. During 63 years of marriage, they have continually supported and loved each other. They raised a beautiful family in Washington Terrace together, having four sons, all surviving, R. Shawn Callister, Evanston; Troy Callister, South Ogden; Ryan (Jill) Callister, Roy; and Jason (Jenny) Callister, Ogden; one daughter, Stefanie (Greg) Allsop, Syracuse; and seven grandchildren, including Graden, Kaitlyn, McKenna, Hunter, Kyler, Cierra, and Trey. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond, Sheldon, and Lyndon; and a sister, JoAnn Miles.

 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Washington Terrace Third Ward Chapel, 4855 South 300 West, Ogden. Friends may visit family on Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
