Robert Gene Carr was born July 10, 1942, to Donald and Arlene (Rempfer) Carr in DeKalb, Illinois, and went to meet his savior on Friday August 22, 2025. Bob graduated from DeKalb High School, DeKalb, Illinois in June of 1960 and left the next day for the Army. He served in Germany from 1960 to 1963. Returning December 21, 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Aldis. After 10 years he completed his college classes earning a bachelor's degree in education (Industrial Arts). He was a member of Epsilon Pi Tau, Zeta Chapter Fraternity. Bob also earned his pilots license and was a member of the DeKalb Civil Air Patrol and took Bev's grandmother, Mabel Aldis up on his first flight after receiving his license.
Bob and Bev were life members of Cortland United Methodist Church, meeting in youth group, where he held many positions in the church. They led two youth groups at Cortland United Methodist Church and took them on numerous camping and fun trips and led groups to the Boundary Waters Canoe area in Minnesota with the Northern Illinois United Methodist Conference. He was a volunteer firefighter in Cortland and a charter member of the Cortland Lions Club and was in 4-H for many years. Bob left General Electric and went to Spaulding in DeKalb which closed, and he and the family moved to Middleport, NY where he was employed by FMC Corp. Bob became a member of TOWPATH Lodge No. 1193 of the Masons. Next Bob joined General Electric in Syracuse, NY making cathode tubes. From there he moved to Thompson in Marion, IN and then to Philips in Ottawa in 1988 until it closed. Next, he worked for his son, Steve, at Allied Environmental, Lima. While in Ottawa, he was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association 636 Club and took many kids up for their first flights through the Young Eagles program. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church serving in a number of capacities. Bob did extensive genealogy research tracing his family back to time of Catherine the Great and met many members of his mother's family, the Rempfers, still in Germany. He really enjoyed serving in the Army in Germany and was able to meet family members during his visit in 1999, where he was also able to see where his ancestors lived and were buried.
Bob leaves his wife Bev; son, Steve (LeAnn) Carr of Pandora; daughter, Michelle (Mike) Cole of Ottawa; son, Todd (Nancy) Carr of Miller City; grandkids, Stephen Carr of Buffalo, NY., Chloe Carr (Levi Schumacher of Bowling Green, Lorrie Cole (Devin Heitmeyer) and great granddaughter, Layklen of Ottawa, Nate Cole (Sarah Nieto) of Ottawa, Reid Carr (Chelsea Thomas), Marissa Carr, both of Miller City, and McKenzie (Nick) Leviker and great grandsons, Kyraian and Jullian Leviker of Columbus Grove. Also "unofficially adopted" grandkids, Zoey Kleman, Autumn, Spring, and Summer Hauenstein, Ethan, Mason and Kyler Kleman, Molly and Brandon Kleman, Izaak and Gavyn Peter and Jupiter Kleman, whom he loved with his whole heart. He is also survived by his sister, Beverly Schone of Freeport, IL; and brother, Donald (Stephanie) Carr of Arlington, TX.; and many nieces and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents Don and Arlene Carr; grandparents, Vere and Hilda Carr, John and Mabel Rempfer, and great-grandparents, Edith and James Chamberlin.
Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa with Pastor Monica Kleman officiating. Burial will follow at Harman Cemetery, Gilboa. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 7 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa and again on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
