Robert Allen Cassity

Robert Allen Cassity ("Bob") died in Keizer, Oregon on August 27, 2025, at the age of 93, of kidney failure and blood disease. He was granted his last wish, to return home from the hospital to be with his wife. He died peacefully at home, as he wanted, on the morning of their 75th wedding anniversary.

Bob was born in Augusta, Kansas on May 28, 1932, in the early years of the Great Depression. He was the oldest son of Allen and Neva Cassity. In his early teen years, Bob's family came to the orchard community of Entiat, Washington, near Wenatchee. Bob played basketball and served on the Student Council at Entiat High School. There he also met his high school sweetheart, Roberta Joyce Cassity, and they were married in Entiat on August 27, 1950.

The couple initially lived in Wenatchee, where Bob worked for Alcoa Aluminum. From 1952 to 1954, Bob served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War, stationed in Kodiak, Alaska. Bob and Joyce moved with their family to the Seattle area in the mid-1950s, where he joined the union carpenters' apprenticeship program and worked his way up diligently from apprentice to journeyman. He rose quickly through the construction ranks, becoming a foreman and ultimately a superintendent. He was a proud member of Carpenters Local 131 in Seattle, and he remained a strong union supporter all his life. For the majority of his career, Bob worked as a lead superintendent for the Lease Crutcher Construction Company in Seattle. Countless significant buildings in the greater Seattle area attest to his excellence, including the Bay Vista Tower, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, UW Speech and Hearing Center,UW Chemical Engineering Building, Boeing 18-41 Building in Kent, and many more. In the 1970s and 1980s, Bob also taught night classes in the Local 131 apprenticeship program at Everett Community College.

Bob and Joyce raised their family in the Seattle area. Shortly after his retirement in 2000, they moved to Marysville, Washington. In 2021 Bob and Joyce moved to a senior living facility in the Salem, Oregon area.

Always smiling, with a calm demeanor and engaging personality, Bob will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a hard worker known for his outstanding work ethic, impeccable integrity, deep loyalty, kindness, and strong faith in God.

Bob is survived by his wife of 75 years, Joyce, and his four children: Jeanette Cassity of Salem, Oregon; Liane Miller (Tony) of Fort McLeod, Alberta; Brian Cassity (Kathy) of Salem, Oregon; and Denise Schultz (Scott) of Mill Creek, Washington. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Bob Schultz (Megan) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Christina Deung (Sam) of Tucson, Arizona; Katie Durkin (Chris) of Victoria, British Columbia; Liam Cassity and Layla Cassity of Salem, Oregon; and three great-grandchildren, Ari and JJ Deung and Violet Durkin.

A memorial service for Bob will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Keizer Funeral Chapel. Bob will be interred at a later date at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. The family welcomes memorial contributions in Bob's name to the American Diabetes Association.
