Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beddingfield Funeral Service - San Jose from Jan. 3 to Jan. 4, 2025.
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Robert Charles Pace, a beloved father, grandfather, and cherished member of his community, on December 26, 2024, in
San Jose, CA. He was born on November 5, 1940, in San Francisco, CA, to Charles Pace and Maria (Blatz) Pace. In 1949, his family moved to Chicago, IL, to be closer to his father's family. Bob went to the Chicago Vocational School before joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1958 with some of his buddies. While stationed at Naval Station Treasure Island, he met the love of his life, Judi, and they were married six months later in 1962. They moved to
San Jose, CA, in 1965 and remained there for the rest of their lives. They were married for 55 years until Judi passed away in 2017.
A skilled and dedicated auto mechanic, Bob built a lifelong career working primarily with Volkswagen dealers, where he was respected for his expertise and meticulous craftsmanship. He later joined FedEx, bringing the same commitment and precision to his work until his retirement in 2008. Bob's talent extended beyond his professional career-he could fix almost anything around the house, a testament to his resourcefulness and practical skills.
He enjoyed classic cars and went to the Hot August Nights car show in Reno for many years and also went to many air shows. Bob bowled for many years and bowled a perfect 300 game along with being in the 700 Club. His hobbies included model trains and building and flying radio-controlled airplanes. He also never hesitated to share a recipe or tell a corny joke.
Bob enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends. He was known for having long conversations on the phone and wasn't afraid to look up a phone number and randomly call someone that he hadn't talked to for forty years as if he had just talked to them yesterday.
He was pre-deceased by his parents and a sister. He is survived by his children, Linda Casey (Marty), Mike (Roxann) Pace, Gary (Nicole) Pace, and Donna Pace. He also leaves six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a sister and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to the
American Cancer Society.
