Robert Conway

Robert Bruce Conway, of New Virginia, Iowa, passed from this life on March 27, 2026. Rob was born in Sioux City, Iowa, December 14, 1944, to Clair John & Bernadine Fay (Smith) Conway.

Rob attended Sioux City public schools & graduated from Central High School in 1963. Rob joined the U.S. Navy in 1964 and served until honorably discharged in 1970.

In 1966, Rob was hired at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Sioux City, IA. His first job was collecting coins out of pay phones. Rob continued working in the telephone industry as an engineer for U.S. West and Qwest Communications until his retirement in 2004.

Rob had two children, Jason Wells and Kelly Ann, from a previous marriage. In 1983 he married Donna who had two children, Sheila and Sheryl.

Rob enjoyed repairing refinishing antique furniture. He liked nothing better than taking a piece of furniture, that was ready for the burn pile, and restoring it to it's original use and beauty.

Rob also loved Barbershop harmony. He sang in two competition quality quartets, the Midlanders and the Fourth Dimension. He also sang baritone with the old Des Moinesaires Chorus. Rob also had a love for southern gospel quartet music. He would buy accompaniment CD's and sing with the recording quartets for church services.

Rob joined the New Virginia United Methodist Church. It was early in joining that Rob asked Jesus to take over his life. He was a late bloomer if you will. That changed his life forever. He served Gods kingdom, his fellow man and the church through the gifts God had given him. Rob had several opportunities to preach on a Sunday when the Pastor was gone. It was a daunting task for him but with the help of the Holy Spirit and by God's grace he and the Spirit got the job done.

Rob was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill Conway, sisters Nancy Luikart and Diane Reushling, and still born daughter Michelle Paula Conway.

Rob is survived by his loving wife Donna; children Jason (Betsy) Conway of San Diego CA., Kelly Conway of Des Moines, IA, Sheila Johnson of Fayetteville, GA, Sheryl (Rio) Doolittle of Indianola, IA. Grandchildren Lily, Ellie, Elizabeth, Lacie, Kayla (Jacob), Natalie (David), Melissa (Landen), Faith, Adeline, Mitch (Lacy), and Jessica. Services will be held at New Virginia United Methodist Church, Saturday April 4, 2026 at 10:30 am with Pastor Paul Burrow officiating and the family will greet friends from 9:30 am to 10:30 am Saturday, April 4, 2026. A live stream of the service will be available at www.kalefuneralhome.com on Robert's tribute wall beginning at 10:30 am, Saturday. Interment will be in the New Virginia Cemetery.
