Mr. Robert Lanier Cook, 97, of Buena Vista, GA, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. David Chapman officiating. The family will greet friends after the service in the church Fellowship Hall. Serving as pallbearers will be Flem Smith, Vance McCorkle, Howard Cook, Reggie Jones, Barry Jones, and Ricky Singleton. 

Mr. Cook was born June 26, 1927, in Buena Vista, GA, to Willie Howell and Annie Lee Helms Cook. Born and raised on the family farm, it was his favorite place to be. He could often be found on the tractor preparing the fields for dove hunting. Early in life, Mr. Cook worked driving a truck hauling sand. He later worked for Lion’s Club Ice & Storage in Buena Vista delivering ice, Burgin Lumber Company checking lumber, and then at Western Auto with the Hair family. He worked at Tyler Automotive from 1986-1992 until he retired to the farm. Mr. Cook enjoyed hunting, fishing, and driving his tractor. He was a member of New Providence Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings. 

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Derrell and Penny Cook and his daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Joe Woodall all of Buena Vista, GA; his brother, Ferrell Cook of Buena Vista, GA; two grandchildren, Ashley and David Moore of Valdosta, GA, and Chase and Hayley Cook of Columbus, GA; and five great-grandchildren, Emma Paschal, Avery Cook, Brooks Cook, Dawson Moore, and Macie Moore. Numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive. 

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to New Providence Baptist Church, PO Box 532, Buena Vista, GA, 31803.
