Robert V. Cooley, 87, of Gardner, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his daughter and his caregiver Maryllyn, who he adored, after a period of declining health.
Born in Marlborough on July 22, 1938, he was the son of the late Edward and Mildred (Drew) Cooley. Robert was a proud graduate of Northborough High School, Class of 1956, and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army Reserves. Prior to his retirement, Robert was a respected master electrician and the owner and operator of R.V. Cooley Electrical for more than 20 years. Through his skill, integrity, and dedication to his craft, he built a strong reputation within the community and took great pride in his work.
Robert was a devoted parishioner of Saint Bernadette Parish in Northborough and proudly served as a former On-Call Firefighter for the Town of Northborough. In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing, and throughout his life found peace in long walks and in the companionship of his cherished dogs. He and his beloved wife especially treasured their travels together, most notably the winters they spent in Florida as snowbirds. Above all, Robert's greatest joy was the time he shared with those he loved most - his family and dear friends.
He is survived by his two daughters, Amy Holgerson and her husband Les of Hubbardston, and Brenda Guarnieri of Florida; his son, Thomas Cooley of Essex Junction, Vermont; seven grandchildren, Karly, Katie, and Kyle Holgerson, Lindsey and Nicholas Kisiel, Anthony Guarnieri, and Alison Adams; two great-grandchildren, Mia Rodriguez and Aliza Adams; his brother, James Cooley of Maine; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary L. (Shea) Cooley, who died on January 17, 2026; and by his brothers, Edward and Ronald Cooley.
Burial services will be held privately at Howard Street Cemetery Northborough, MA with a Mass at St. Bernadette's, at a later date.
