Robert Costello Obituary

Robert Joseph Costello
Robert J. Costello, passed away peacefully, at the age of 72, on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Bob was a long-time resident of Stratford (Lordship), CT and a graduate of Stratford High School, class of 1969. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert C. Costello and Marjorie E. Costello (Newbauer). He leaves behind his daughters, Chris Costello (Dave Maglione), and Lauren (Mason) Law, his one-year-old granddaughter, Sadie, and his partner, Christine Demchak.
Bob earned an undergraduate degree from Central CT State University and later obtained an MBA from Southern CT State University, which he used to advance his career as an accountant. He was a dedicated employee, putting in long hours at Avco Lycoming Textron, Phillips Medical, and Cooper Surgical, where he recently retired from after almost 20 years as a Cost Accounting Manager. He was well liked and respected among his peers- despite his sometimes "off color" humor he was entertaining and endearing.
Bob loved sports and grew up playing baseball and basketball (he also was coach for CYO) and also enjoyed playing softball, golf, and fishing. He was a die-hard NY sports fan, rooting for the Yankees, Jets, and Rangers.
For 20 years, you could find "Cos" bartending most Saturdays behind the Ale House bar. He will be remembered by his friends and family as the life of the party. He loved a traditional Thanksgiving meal and festive Christmas sweater. He had a loud belly laugh that was infectious and was most often found in good spirits, both literally and figuratively- being fond of dirty martinis, smooth bourbon, and red wine. While retired only a short time, Bob enjoyed creating a home in Murrells Inlet, SC with his "wife" Chris. He was proud of his daughters and delighted to be a Pop Pop.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Church, 2070 Main St., Stratford, CT, with a lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to St. Jude's or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

I grew up living next to the Costello family on Walnut Street in Lordship. Bobby was a quite a bit older than me and his mom, Marge who I adored, let me play in his room where I found his Archie and Veronica comics. Bobby was very nice to the "Burns" girls who often invaded his space!
My condolences to his family and wish them peace.

I was lucky enough to get to know Bob while I interned at Cooper. He was gracious enough to take the time to meet with me about his role and accounting experience, and he had an amazing sense of humor. Rest in peace Bob, and my sincere condolences to his family.

When we first met Bob, he was very thin and a picky, picky eater-mainly chicken on the grill and a baked potato! That all changed when he married into a 100% Italian family! We always enjoyed being with Bob during holidays and other family gatherings. His sense of humor and laugh were always present. Thanksgiving seemed to be one of his favorite times- he always said it was his favorite meal of the year.
We all loved Bob and will miss him. We will never forget him.
Rest in peace Bob- you sure deserve it.
