Robert was the caring husband of Lorraine Hill for 50 years dating back to their high school years in Linden, NJ.
Robert was born in Wilkes Barre, PA on May 22, 1949 to the late Harold and Emily (Brandall) Counterman residing in Elizabeth, NJ until his move to Linden.
Robert worked as a Water Well Superintendent for Hydro-Group in Linden, NJ for 27 years. He then owned and operated his consulting company RC Well and Pump for 15 years.
He loved the outdoors, hunting in Alaska and Montana, fishing with his bass boat in Florida, Tennesse and New York state. He had a life long devotion to Cavalier King Charles Spaniels having parented 12 dogs.
He was drafted out of high school as a catcher for the Detroit Tigers minor league team, then the Yankees where he played in North Carolina and Florida. He continued his passion for sports by participating in softball leagues for many years.
In addition to his devoted wife, Robert is survived by his brother David Counterman and wife Judy of Orlando, FL, his sister Debbie Wenk and husband Chris of White House Station, NJ, sister in law Jackie Hill of Fanwood, NJ, brother in law John HIll and wife Joanne as well as several nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory may be made to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center 575 Woodland Ave, Madison NJ 07940 or Cavalier Rescue USA, 6400 N Paseo Tamayo, Tucson, AZ 85750.
Viewing will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood, NJ 07023 from 5-8 pm with a service starting at 730pm on Friday June 27.
Private cremation to follow.
