Robert Davenport Obituary

Robert McCall Davenport
09/30/1934 - 10/13/2025
Robert McCall Davenport passed away at his home on October 13, 2025. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas on September 30, 1934, to Margaret Harvey Davenport and Jacob McCall Davenport.
His childhood was spent in Abilene, Texas and at the family ranch near Hermleigh, Texas, where a life-long interest in agriculture and livestock began. He was a part of a Texas ranching family with roots stretching back to the Republic of Texas. Robert graduated from New Mexico Military Institute preparatory school in 1952, and afterward, he attended the University of Texas in Austin.
In 1957, he returned to west Texas where he was engaged in ranching with his late father in Fisher and Scurry counties. In 1961, he married Eloise Conger of Midland, Texas, where he moved, and together there, made their home and raised their three children, Amy, Bob and Blake. He also became involved in ranching in Ector and Andrews counties, alongside his late father-in-law, Harvey Hill Conger. He loved the community in which he chose to live, and he enjoyed serving and supporting it in any way possible. He loved the "can do" spirit of the people who live in Midland. It was invigorating to him.
Robert was baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins as an adult, according to Acts 2:38. He was a man of quiet faithfulness and steadfastness of spirit. He was a wise man who made decisions based on the moral absolutes of God's word. He was reserved, but kindhearted and congenial. He led an orderly life at home and in business. He had a deep love for his wife and children, and a love for ranching. He was a loyal friend.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, by his daughter, Amy Conger Davenport of Midland, by his sister, Shirley Davenport Keady, and by his nephew, Robert Jennings Keady, both of Sacramento, California. Robert is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eloise Conger Davenport of Midland, his son, Robert McCall Davenport, Junior and his wife, Elizabeth Beal Davenport, of Midland and his son, Blakeney Conger Davenport and his wife, Brooke Byram Davenport, of Dallas, Texas. Grandchildren surviving Robert are McCall Davenport Fuqua (Trey), Hill Cowden Davenport (Elizabeth), and Adams Beal Davenport (Isabelle) of Midland, and Chloe Christina Davenport and Charlotte Sally Davenport of Dallas, Texas. He is survived by seven great grandchildren: Richard Lee Fuqua, IV, Henry Cowden Fuqua, Eloise McCall Fuqua, Mary McCall Davenport, William James Davenport, Theodore John Davenport and Whitcomb Robert Davenport, all of Midland. Also surviving Robert is his sister-in-law, Elaine Conger Gist, of Midland and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Robert's caregivers Silvia Gonzales, Rocendo Pioquento, Amy Alvarado, Eilda Alvarado, Rebeca Arzate and Emily Castro. Their love, support and friendship will be forever cherished.
There will be a reception at the home of Eloise Davenport on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 5 - 7 pm, 3 Greenwich Drive. A private family burial will take place at another time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials directed to a favorite charity.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory in Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
