Robert "Bob" E. Davis Jr. 73, of rural Pekin, Illinois passed away at 8:57pm on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at his residence with family by his side.
He was born on October 1, 1952, in Haynesville, Louisiana to Robert E Davis, Sr. and Drucilla J. Trent Davis LeGrand. He married Lynn Brummett on April 18, 1981 in Tremont, Illinois. Surviving are his wife, Lynn, three children Christopher (Monica) Kinsey of Oxford, Mississippi; Nicholas (Melissa) Kinsey and Heather (Andrew) Vanderford both of Tremont, Illinois.
He is also survived by five grandchildren: Rebecca, Megan, Ethan, Kaitlynn Kinsey and Addie Sue Vanderford. Further surviving are one brother Jeffrey (Linda) Davis of Batesville, Mississippi and one sister Judy Davis of Oxford, Mississippi; two step brothers Ed (Shelly) LeGrand of Pelahatchie, Mississippi and John (Susan) LeGrand of Biloxi, Mississippi.
In 1955, Bob, Sr. moved the family to Oxford, MS. There Bobby grew up loving the small-town life. He excelled at little league and pony league baseball. He later spent hours on the golf course competing. From a young age, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle with friends, which lead to a love of fast cars. His love for Sardis Lake started with boating and camping trips with his parents and siblings, leading to him spending as much time as possible on the lake waterskiing with friends. Bob attended Oxford Public Schools, graduating from Oxford High School in 1970.
He served in the Mississippi National Guard for nine years while attending Ole Miss and graduated from the University of Mississippi College of Business. He utilized his degree when he co-founded GlassComp, Inc. in Morton, Illinois. In their youth Bob and Lynn enjoyed golfing, which led to their passion for watching professional golf after retirement. After retiring from GlassComp, Inc., Bob enjoyed pursuing his talent for finance and investments, as well as spending time at the family lake fishing and kayaking with his kids and grandkids. Bob also took the opportunity to volunteer for the Tazewell County ESDA, the Peoria-Area Amateur Radio Club as a Volunteer Examiner, and served on the Tremont Triathlon team board for several years. Bob loved supporting triathlon athletes, like himself, as they pursued becoming an Ironman. Bob even ran the Chicago Marathon with his sons in 2010.
Throughout his life Bob could be found tinkering and talking to individuals from around the world on his HAM Radio. Bob was an avid Amateur radio (HAM) enthusiast and operated with the call sign AA9MY. He primarily used the UHF-VHF portion of the bands utilizing terrestrial and non-terrestrial modes (moon bounce, Meteor scatter) and attained many awards and certificates for VUCC on 1296, 432, 222, 144, and 50 MHZ. W A S (Worked All States) on 144 MHZ and W A C (Worked All Continents) also on 144 MHZ. Bob will be greatly missed by the Amateur Radio community (7 3).
While there will be no public services in Illinois, Bob's family will host a small family graveside service in Oxford. There will be a celebration of life get together at the clubhouse at The Mark condo complex on Old Taylor Road on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 3:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, online donations may be given to OSF Healthcare Hospice Home Endowment. Affordable Funeral & Cremation Services of Central Illinois, Peoria, is assisting his family with arrangements, and Waller Funeral Home in Oxford, Mississippi will be handling the graveside service.
