Mr. Rives B. "Buddy" Lowrey, 86, died November 17, 2025, at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock, AR. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Allen officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M. A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 12:30 P.M. at Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery, Forest, MS.
Rives was born on February 9, 1939, to the late R.B. and Callie Black Lowrey in Bernice, LA. Rives was a longtime and active member of First Baptist Church of Oxford. In addition to being a member of the adult choir, he was also a bivocational Minister of Music at various churches. His faith was unwavering, and he devoted time daily to prayer and Bible Study. All that knew him understood that during his time of prayer, he was not to be disturbed. His devotion to this faithful time of his day never wavered and, in devotion to his Lord, he always prayed on his knees.
Rives was valedictorian of the 1957 graduating class of Bernice High School and then received a Bachelor of Science of Forestry from Louisiana Tech University. Mr. Lowrey was a timber management specialist for over fifty-six years with the US Forest Service and covered the Mississippi districts of Desoto, Bienville, Homochitto and Holly Springs Tombigbee. When Rives was not working, you could find him running, training, and participating in numerous races.
In addition to his parents, Rives was preceded in death by his sisters, Grace Bentley, Sara Rambin, and Louise Thurmon.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-six years, Carol Lowrey (Oxford); daughters, Callie Ferguson (Michael) of Little Rock, AR, Emily Lowrey of Little Rock, AR, and Sara Scott (Andrew) of Clinton, MS; mother-in-law, Frankie Sessums of Forest, MS; sister, Judy Hughes (Chuck) of Monroe, LA; brother, David Lowrey (Trina); and grandchildren, Eleanor, Thomas, and William.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Lowrey's memory may be made to First Baptist Church of Oxford, 800 Van Buren Avenue, Oxford, MS or any charity of the donor's choice.
