Robert A. Deforge

Robert (Bob) A. Deforge (82) of Kittery, Maine died on September 7, 2025 at Sentry Hill in York Harbor, ME. Bob was the son of Eva (Johnson) Deforge and Arthur J. Deforge of Westford, Massachusetts. He graduated from Westford Academy in 1961, and UMass Lowell in 1965 with a degree in electrical engineering.

Soon after graduation, Bob moved to the Kittery-Portsmouth area and began his career as an electrical engineer in the Planning Department at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He soon transferred to the SUBMEPP Activity with the Department of the Navy, where he worked for the next 27 years in the Maintenance Engineering Division. He retired in January 1999, after completing 34 years of federal government service.

Bob was an avid golfer. He was an active member of Portsmouth Country Club since 1966, serving as Vice President of the Greens Dept. for 3 years and participated in much of the decision-making process. A lifelong golfer, he loved every aspect of the sport: teaching beginners, ensuring the greens and clubhouse remained in pristine condition, and spending winter playing whist in the card room with dear friends.

Above all things in life, Bob loved his family; his wife, Eve; his children, Renee (Deforge) Dodge and her husband Scott of Berwick, ME; Andrew Roberts and his wife, Michelle Diaz of Kensington, New Hampshire; Desiree Roberts of Dover, NH; and the late Juliana (Roberts) Murphy and her husband Robert Murphy of Dover, NH. His brothers were very dear to him: John Deforge and his wife, Candy of York, ME, and Richard Deforge and his wife, Mary of Moultonborough, NH. Bob cherished his many grandchildren, and was especially proud to see them grow up.

He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Eva Deforge of Westford; and daughter, Juliana Murphy of Dover.

Relatives and friends may call Monday September 15th from 5:00 to 7:00 at J.S. Pelkey and Son Funeral Home in Kittery. He will be laid to rest on Tuesday September 16th at 11:00 alongside his parents-in-law, John and Dorothy Poulis, at Greek Orthodox Cemetery on Tates Brook Road in Somersworth, NH. Refreshments will follow at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, opposite the cemetery.

Robert Deforge was a long-time member of St. James Catholic Church and later Corpus Christi Parish, in Portsmouth, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to: Corpus Christi Parish in Portsmouth, or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
