Robert DeGroat Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. - Keeseville on Jun. 28, 2024.
Robert E. "Bob" DeGroat, 89, of Keeseville, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024 at his home under the loving care of his family and High Peaks Hospice.
He was born in Plattsburgh on February 12, 1935, the son of Harry and Francine (Mussen) DeGroat.
Bob graduated from Keeseville High School and enlisted in the United States Army. During his enlistment, he was stationed at Ramstein Air Base during the Korean Conflict.
Bob returned to Keeseville and married his sweetheart, Janet W. Roy. Together, they raised 4 children. He started one of many careers alongside his father at the Essex County Republican as an editor and photographer. He also drove bus for AVCS for many, many years. He always said that this was his favorite job. He loved every single student that rode his #54 and #98 bus.
When he wasn't working, his most loved past times were being a self-taught wood-worker, an avid outdoorsman, bird watcher and making blue bird houses. His love of nature was handed down to his children and grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 67 years, Janet (Roy) DeGroat; his children, Timothy DeGroat; Kim (Tom) Golden, her children Timothy Rennie, Mikki (Ryan) Rennie, and Elizabeth (Joshua) Mowery and his son Sawyer, along with her step-children Kim (Dan) O'Connor, Molly (Mike) Zingler and her children Sophia and Lia, Jason (Kael) Golden, and Stacey (Scott) Levesque and their daughter Scarlett; Robert (Penny) DeGroat and their daughters Erin (Dan) DeGroat and Lora Ann (Brandon) Anderson and their daughters Aria and Evelyn; Shari (Kim) Gordon and their sons Joshua (Ashlee) Gordon and their daughter Abigail, and Joseph Gordon; his sister Mary (Don) Rennell; his uncle (brother) Don Mussen; many nieces and nephews and a daughter waiting for him in heaven.
He was predeceased by his mother and father.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 11 AM at St. John's Church, Keeseville. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
