Robert DeKoning

Robert G. DeKoning, age 99, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. Bob will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife of 74 years, Vivian; children, Pat and Randy TerHorst, Jane and Larry VanderVeen, Cindy and Dan Sikkema, Mary and Jerry DeGraaf, Carol and Jim Brookhouse; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy and George Jasperse. He is preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Terhorst. Bob lived his faith in Jesus Christ throughout his life as a husband, parent, grandparent, teacher and friend. Along with teaching at Unity Christian High School for 35 years, he was always willing to serve in leadership roles at Burton Heights Christian Reformed Church. Bob and Vivian also volunteered with World Renew (CRWRC), in disaster relief. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was a World War II Veteran. The family welcomes visitors on Sunday, November 9, from 3 to 6 PM at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, 49508, where the funeral service will be held on Monday, November 10, at 6 PM. Pastor Paul DeVries will officiate. Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in memory of Bob may be made to Unity Christian School High School.
