Robert DeRosia Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McWilliams Funeral Home - Alpena on Jan. 26, 2026.
Robert W. DeRosia "Perch", 86, of Hillman passed away on January 24, 2026, with his family by his side following a tough battle with dementia.

Robert was born in Alpena on August 3, 1939, to Harry and Elsie (Grosinsky) DeRosia where he and his siblings were raised.

Perch was a patriot who loved his country and after having served in the Army during the Vietnam War, he returned home to his beloved Hillman, where he raised a family and lived an extraordinary life. He can best be described as a man who was a throwback to an earlier time in America, where material things didn't matter as much as a love for the forests, rivers and lakes of the surrounding countryside. Where the character of a man was what was important, not what he had in the bank. Being an avid and very successful hunter and fisherman in his own right, Perch was also always willing to take family and friends under his wing and show them the ropes with great results. A stalwart friend who possessed great physical strength and a big heart, Perch could always be counted on to be there when someone needed help. He would show up, get things done and then quietly take his leave, never asking for anything in return. To say he will be loved and missed would be a huge understatement, but his family and friends will be able to take comfort knowing he's enjoying the golden fields and streams of heaven, hunting and fishing with the loved ones who went before him.

Perch is survived by his daughter, Bobbi (special son-in-law Patrick) Golden, and granddaughter, Kailoni DeRosia (Rob Lane). He was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth (Virginia), Clarence (Lucille), Paul (Fran), Donald "Eli" (Darlene), Gary (Yvonne), sisters, Helen, Lila (Art), and Mary Lou (Fred) along with two special friends; furry sidekick, Moses and best buddy, Tim Banks.

A celebration of Perch's life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Hillman VFW Hall on State St. Military honors will be accorded by VFW Post #2356 beginning at 1pm with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the family to assist with final expenses or the Second Chance Animal Shelter. Arrangements are in the care of McWilliams Funeral Home.
